In late April, S. leucophylla shares coastal savannah with other pitcher plant species.  New pitcher leaves of the season seem to have caught up with the still showy display of red, dangling flowers. Two color forms of S. leucophylla pitcher can be seen: green-veined and red-veined varieties over the almost pure white surface of the upper portion of the pitcher.
