As an evening draws to a close, the sun sinks lower, its last rays hitting the cobra plants growing in the thousands in the grass-covered mountain meadow. Golden hues emanate from the cobra heads, permeating the meadow in the serenity of the forest....  Cold waters from mountain springs rush through a south-facing, mild slope of the mountain, forming a wide band of marshy surface. It is in such an exacting setup that vast colonies of cobra plants thrive in the wild throughout their distribution in northern California and the adjacent southwestern part of Oregon .

I visited the same habitat some 27 years later. I did not see any deterioration of the habitat. Oregon, July, 2003.
