Germination commences as the seed absorbs water and swells. The embryonic root anchors the seedling as the twin cotyledons emerge from the seed coat. The first leaf right after the cotyledons will be a miniature trap leaf. For its small size, the plant is a slow grower. It take 4-5 years for the Venus flytrap seedling to reach a flowering age.
