Live View                       Back to Nikon D300 Menu Hierarchy

To use Live View operation, turn Release Mode Dial on the top of the camera to Live View. When you release the shutter once, the live view image is shown on the back monitor of the camera. You have not taken any picture yet. In Live View, two modes are supported: Hand-held & Tripod modes.

How to take pictures in Live View mode:

Hand-held mode

1. Turn Release Mode Dial on the camera top to Live View.
2. Click the shutter once to start Live View. The back monitor now displays the image. (To cancel, hit
MENU button.)
3. To focus, either press the shutter half-way or press
AF-ON button. Phase-detection autofocus is used. The monitor display disappears.
4. To take a picture, press the shutter all the way.

Tripod mode

1. Turn Release Mode Dial on the camera top to Live View.
2. Click the shutter once to start Live View. The back monitor now displays the image. (To cancel, hit
MENU button.)
3. To focus, you must use
AF-ON button. Contrast-detect autofocus is used (accurate but slow, must use a tripod). The monitor display stays.
4. To take a picture, press the shutter all the way.

SHOOTING MENU

Live View
Live View mode This allows you to choose either Hand-held or Tripod mode.
Release mode This allows you to select from Single frame, Continuous low-speed or Continuous high-speed mode.
