Preface

The photographs of carnivorous plants presented here were prepared during the years 1973 through 1982 in their respective natural habitats on the North American continent. These plants were growing healthily and extensively, in spite of the threat of future extinction by excessive man-inflicted alterations. This book is a photographic tribute to the natural ecology of some carnivorous plants encountered during my wanderings through the wildernesses of North America.

Looking at these small plant species, so elegantly and harmoniously interwoven into the beautifully sequenced ecological chain of life in their natural environment, makes us realize, ponder, and respect the ever-powerful quest of evolution that put man in the stewardship of this planet. In this book, the reader is invited to the wilderness of North America to witness a variety of carnivorous plants' mysterious life forms in their unique, native habitats.
